Cold-Rolled Aluminum Plate Vs Hot-Rolled Aluminum Plate

Aluminum plates, whether cold-rolled or hot-rolled, are the most common aluminum plates we have at present. Because of their different uses, we divide aluminum plates into cold-rolled aluminum plates, such as the representative product 1060 aluminum plate, followed by hot-rolled aluminum plates such as 5052 aluminum plates. However, there are actually many differences between cold-rolled and hot-rolled aluminum plates.

Differences between cold-rolled and hot-rolled aluminum plates

  • 1. Appearance difference

The difference in the surface between cold-rolled and hot-rolled aluminum plates. From the appearance alone, it can be seen that the surface of hot-rolled aluminum plates will be a little gray and black, and the brightness of cold-rolled aluminum plates may not be that much.

The reason for this is that hot-rolled aluminum plates are often made of alloys, especially manganese, magnesium, silicon and other metals, which will cause the surface of aluminum plates to be gray and black, so the surface of the two is grayer than that of hot-rolled plates, while cold-rolled ones will not.

Usually, the surface brightness of hot-rolled plates is better than that of cold-rolled plates, but this should also be compared with the thickness of the aluminum plate.

  • 2. Performance difference

The difference between cold rolling and hot rolling of aluminum plates is quite obvious. The mechanical properties of hot-rolled plates and the ductility of aluminum plates are relatively good.

Especially the oxidation process of hot-rolled aluminum plates is extremely good. Compared with cold-rolled aluminum plates and aluminum coils, the oxidation effect of hot-rolled aluminum plates is definitely better.

The process of hot-rolled plates is to use vertical casting to form billets, which is what we call large aluminum plate ingots, which are heated and finally rolled into coils.

The process of cold-rolled plates is to use cast-rolled billets.

  • 3. Process difference

The process of cold-rolled plates is different from that of cold-rolled steel. Because the hardness of aluminum plates is relatively soft, its processing technology is relatively simple.

The process of hot-rolled aluminum plates is generally aluminum ingots – smelting – rolled into plates and strips through casting and rolling mills. This process is the core of the hot rolling mill, and the cost is relatively high.

However, compared with hot-rolled aluminum plates, hot-rolled plates are less likely to have defects such as segregation, inclusions, and oil spots, and their quality is definitely not as good as that of hot-rolled plates.

  • 4. Strength difference

Comparison of the performance strength of cold-rolled and hot-rolled aluminum plates mainly depends on the alloy composition of the aluminum plate.

The hardness achieved by different aluminum plate alloys is incomparable. For example, the popular 1060 aluminum plate of cold-rolled aluminum plates and the popular 5052 aluminum plate of hot-rolled plates, one of which has a high aluminum content and the other has a higher cost of containing other metals. The performance comparison between the two is different. The hardness of 5052 aluminum plate is better and the use effect scene is also better.

  • 5. Price difference

The price difference between the two is that the process of cold-rolled aluminum plates is relatively mature, so the price of cold-rolled aluminum plates is low.

Comparing the price of cold-rolled aluminum plates with that of hot-rolled plates, the price of cold-rolled aluminum plates is generally about 1,000 yuan/ton lower than that of hot-rolled plates.
