3003 aluminum foil and 3004 aluminum foil both belong to the aluminum-manganese alloy series and have good rust resistance and corrosion resistance. Because aluminum foil products are safe and non-toxic, can meet hygiene and safety standards, and are very suitable for food packaging and container manufacturing, both are widely used in lunch boxes, fast food takeout, food packaging and other fields. However, there are also some differences between the two.
This article will show the differences between 3003 container foil and 3004 container foil from the following aspects.
Composition | 3003 Aluminum Foil | 3004 Aluminum Foil |
Al | Remaining (96.7%-99.0%) | Remaining (more than 98%) |
Mn | 1.0% – 1.5% | 1.0% – 1.5% |
Fe | Max.0.7% | Max.0.7% |
Si | Max.0.3% | 0.30% |
Cu | Max.0.1% | Max.0.25% |
Mg | Max.0.1% | 0.8% – 1.3% |
Zn | Max.0.1% | Max.0.25% |
3003 aluminum foil has better plasticity and forming properties, but its strength is lower than that of 3004 aluminum foil; 3004 aluminum foil has higher strength but lower elongation.
Item | 3003 | 3004 |
Tensile strength (MPa) | 142-178 | 150-285 |
Plasticity | better | good |
Melting point | Lower | Higher |
Coefficient of thermal expansion | Higher | Lower |
3004 aluminum foil belongs to recycled aluminum alloy, which is low-carbon and environmentally friendly. Although it has high strength, it has low elongation and is currently only suitable for single-cavity lunch boxes with wrinkles. 3003 cast-rolled container foil was the main alloy for making lunch boxes in the early days. Due to the low cost of the casting and rolling process and the higher elongation than 3004 aluminum foil, it is suitable for more complex multi-cavity lunch boxes with wrinkles.
There are some differences in cost between 3003 aluminum foil and 3004 aluminum foil. The chemical composition of 3003 aluminum foil is simpler, the casting and rolling process cost is low, the processing process is relatively simple, and the processing cost is low, so the price is lower than 3004 aluminum foil.
