5052 aluminum plate coil and 5083 aluminum plate coil are common aluminum plates coils in 5 series aluminum-magnesium alloys. The main element is magnesium, and the magnesium content is between 3-5%. The main features are low density, high tensile strength, high elongation and good fatigue strength, but it cannot be strengthened by heat treatment. Flait Aluminum will conduct a comparative analysis on the differences between 5052 aluminum plates and 5083 aluminum plates in terms of chemical composition, performance and use, tensile strength, price.
5052 aluminum plate is an AL-Mg alloy aluminum plate, which is the most widely used anti-rust aluminum. The function of chromium in 5052 aluminum plate is similar to that of manganese, which improves the resistance to hydrogen cracking and improves the base metal material and welding strength, reduces the tendency of welding cracks, but its composition generally does not exceed 0.35%. 5052 aluminum plate coil has high strength, especially fatigue resistance, high plasticity and corrosion resistance. It cannot be strengthened by heat treatment. It has good plasticity during semi-cold work hardening, low plasticity during cold work hardening, good corrosion resistance, and good weldability, poor cutting performance, can be polished. 5052 aluminum plates are mainly used to produce fuel tanks, oil pipelines, and transportation vehicles, ships, instrument panels, street lamp supports and bolts, hardware products, etc.
5083 belongs to the Al-Mg-Si series alloy. The main alloy element is magnesium. It has good corrosion resistance and weldability, as well as medium strength. Excellent corrosion resistance makes 5083 alloy widely used in shipbuilding, as well as automobiles, aircraft welding parts, subway light rails, pressure vessels that require strict fire protection (such as liquid tank trucks, refrigerated trucks, refrigerated containers), refrigeration devices, television towers, and drilling equipment, transportation equipment, electrical enclosures, etc.
There is not much difference between 5083 and 5052 aluminum coils from the perspective of oxidation. The main difference is in mechanical properties and other chemical components are also slightly different. In terms of tensile strength and yield strength, 5083 aluminum plate is much stronger than 5052 aluminum plate. The difference in chemical composition makes the mechanical properties of 5083 and 5052 aluminum sheets different. Whether it is tensile strength or yield strength, 5083 aluminum sheets are much stronger than 5052 aluminum sheets. Different chemical compositions lead to different mechanical equipment properties, and different mechanical product properties also lead to different uses between these two alloys. Under normal specifications, the price of 5083 aluminum plate is higher than the price of 5052 aluminum plate.
